Students Caught Being Good Citizens on Camera!

Our seventh grade students at MMS are taking a 9 week core enrichment class taught by me called Citizenship. In this class, they learn about public policy, the role of local government, research problems in our community, write plans to fix those issues, and try to drum up support from government officials and ultimately, get their plan enacted. Yesterday and today, the students presented their VERY large posterboards constructed from decorated-up refrigerator boxes and were videotaped. They did not know they were going to be taped until the day of to prevent pre-presentation nervousness. Most did exceptionally well and were comfortable in front of the camera. This accomplished a two-fold mission - to get the students more comfortable being recorded and to give me something to have playing to pacify parents waititng to conference with me tommorow and Friday! Also, we will view the tape in class and the students will be to evaluate their own public speaking abilities. Just another example of technology in action at MMS!

Wonderful idea! I think the whole affair adds a huge degree of pride of accomplishment as well! Sounds like a great poster-session presentation for a teacher conference!

Geography adventures will take us to far-away places!

Check back frequently to see more of the fascinating far-corners of the world that we will explore this school year...
