Involving the Students with Technology
Our 7th grade students at MMS have made a "video" illustrating September's Character Ed word of the month...with teacher assistance, an oldies CD, ITunes, a borrowed video camera and one MAC, they put on an AMAZING lip sync performance to Aretha Franklin's "Respect" song, complete with some smooth dance moves and faux saxophone playing. The video had clips of students interviews in which they described what respect meant to them and how they demonstrated it in their daily lives. The music transitioned in and out. The students enjoyed viewing the video even more than they liked making it! We are currently researching different types of world governments using the CIA's World Factbook website in the computer lab - AND - an exciting update - our library very recently (just yesterday!) added 20 more student PC's to its ranks! Now our classes will no longer have to work in pairs when we take them to the computer lab! Each student will have their own!

That sounds like such fun! I had my kids make posters for September's Respect word. October's is Accountability, or something like that. Do you have any other fun ideas such as that one that I can use?
Maybe turn "accountability" into some sort an economics lesson. Or wait, you're language arts, forgot. Read selections from various pieces of literature where the main character demonstrates "accountability" for their actions. Or there's always good old role playing scenarios.
